Pioneers of the hydrogen economy: Elomatic designs Green North Energy’s green ammonia production plant
Elomatic is proud to serve as the engineering partner for Green North Energy’s pioneering 280 MW green ammonia production plant in Naantali, Finland. This groundbreaking facility plays a vital role in strengthening Finland’s energy security while driving the green transition by replacing fossil-based solutions with carbon-neutral alternatives.
Designed with scalability in mind, the plant’s concept can also be adapted for future sites in Pori and Kemi, making it a blueprint for sustainable energy production across the region.

Insights
Elomatic consults Vantaan Energia on carbon capture and utilization
Elomatic investigated the options for utilizing carbon dioxide captured from the flue gases of Vantaan Energia’s waste incineration plant for the production of formic acid. The study included process descriptions, energy and mass balances, cost estimates, production costs, implementation plans with timelines, and risk assessments. Elomatic also researched technology providers for formic acid production and carbon capture.
Green ammonia from Finland – a synergy of water, wind and land
A derivative of green hydrogen produced from renewable energy, green ammonia has the potential to become a new source of energy and revenue for the Finnish national economy. It allows the country to break its dependence on natural gas imports and provides self-sufficiency to secure agricultural production, power vessels in the future or to be a carrier of green hydrogen. Finland has the ideal mix of resources to produce green ammonia for both its own domestic use and for global distribution.
Elomatic conducted a study for Flexens on hydrogen production and use in archipelago ferry traffic
Elomatic supported Flexens in their Power2AX project with a study for the production of hydrogen aimed to be used in new ferries in the Åland archipelago. The project Power2AX has a unique and comprehensive approach that includes harvesting wind energy, creating the hydrogen fuel of the generated wind, and finally using the renewable fuel in ferries operating in Åland.
Designing a future-proof solution – being prepared for the carbon-free marine fuel
One of the biggest races to cut greenhouse gas emissions is happening at sea. In light of the latest carbon dioxide emission regulations set by the International Maritime Organization (IMO), shipowners are actively seeking innovative vessel concepts to transition to more eco-friendly fuels. Leading the way to zero emissions, Nippon Yusen Kabushiki Kaisha (NYK Line) and Elomatic have developed a concept that offers scalability for future deployments. When the post-LNG phase is properly considered in advance, conversion costs remain modest.
