We help our customers and partners operate in accordance with the principles of sustainable development, with a particular focus on energy and material efficiency. Our goal is always to deliver solutions that are both safe and sustainable. Our work plays a long-term and significant role – especially in industrial plant projects, where our impact can extend 25–30 years into the future.

As project managers, we have a uniquely broad opportunity to influence sustainability. We integrate sustainability into every phase of our work, starting with the procurement of equipment and expert resources for our customers. By applying best practices, we optimize efficiency and sustainability at every stage of the project – exceeding industry standards and regulations whenever possible.

Projects we have delivered

The new Polarstern

The new Polarstern is a next-generation research and supply vessel that will support sustainable polar research and contribute to ocean protection. Elomatic is responsible for its concept, basic, and detail design.

Flavoring products from food industry waste

BioMush is a food technology startup that develops umami-based flavors from food industry side streams. Production takes place in a bioreactor, for which Elomatic designed a pilot-stage production plant concept and a model for scaling up production.

Recover waste heat from treated wastewater

Vaasan Sähkö built a facility at the Pått wastewater treatment plant to recover waste heat from treated water. Elomatic managed the entire project – from planning and procurement to construction supervision and commissioning.

Simulating accident scenarios

Elomatic simulated ABB’s electric motor performance in a hydrogen leak accident scenario. The results were used to optimize the motor dimensions to meet safety standards.

New fiber from textile waste

Infinited Fiber Company transforms discarded textiles into high-quality fiber. Elomatic has played a key role in building and developing the pilot production.

Elogrid™

Elogrid is a solution installed on ships that improves energy efficiency in maritime transport. One of its most significant advantages is its ability to reduce fuel consumption and thereby decrease the carbon dioxide emissions caused by marine traffic.

Float Foundation – a unique foundation solution

Green North Energy

Elomatic has also founded companies that advance sustainable development. One such company is Green North Energy, which is currently developing a green ammonia pilot plant in Naantali, Finland.

Recognizing our adverse impacts

The significant effects of our design work on the lifecycle of products, production equipment, and facilities highlight the importance of also recognizing negative consequences of our activities. This understanding is crucial to safeguarding the environment and the well-being of people throughout the value chain.

The materiality analysis showed that our most critical systemic impacts concern the workload of knowledge workers and the environmental footprint of the operations we enable. Based on the identified impacts, we are able to develop measures that support the prevention of adverse effects.

Measuring our impact

We continuously develop methods to assess the environmental impact of our work and solutions. For example, the carbon handprint of our Elogrid flow control solution was calculated as part of a thesis project.

Quantified results not only help us communicate the environmental value of our solutions but also provide valuable insights for further development. When assessing impacts, we consider the entire life cycle of our solutions and investments, including their full value chains.
