Etelä-Savon Energia Oy (ESE) is known as a producer of renewable energy. Its history dates back to the start of the 1900s. It was the fourth company in Finland to start generating district heating in 1958. ESE generates electricity at its Pursiala CHP plant from where heat is transferred to the district heating system.
Wood makes up about 80% of the fuel used at the Pursiala power plant. In addition to the Pursiala power plant, hydro and wind electricity is generated by an affiliated company. (www.ese.fi)
Elomatic Oy has been assigned a commission to optimise the functioning of the district heating network. Elomatic is collecting a vast amount of measurement data in order to optimise the network, and via simulation study the heat generation processes.
A simulation model will be created of Etelä-Savon Energia’s Mikkeli district heating network. It will be used to study the network operation in view of optimising of e.g. pumping and the location of primary and secondary plants.
ESE’s Mikkeli district heating optimisation project aims to reduce heat losses in the network and explore the possibility of power-based regulation.
